Robots Invade the Art World: Study Shows AI Helps Design Physical Artefacts

By Voice of Treason

Oh, wow. Another day, another study that tells us robots are taking over the world. But this time, they're doing it in the name of art! According to a new study, researchers at MIT have been using text-to-image models to help people design sculptures. And guess what? It actually works!

Now, I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. On the one hand, it's pretty impressive that a computer can help people create art. On the other hand, it's a bit concerning that we need computers to help us create art. What's next? A robot telling me what jokes to make?

But let's focus on the positive for a moment. The study found that using AI-generated images before making a sculpture did inform what people created. In fact, 23 out of 30 participants said that the images they generated informed their design. And as you can see from the pictures, some of these sculptures are pretty impressive. I mean, sure, they might not be Michelangelo's David, but they're still pretty cool.

What's even more interesting is how participants interacted with the text-to-image model. Some of them used the images to refine their existing ideas, while others used the images to explore new ideas. And then there were the "Explorers" who gave largely unrelated prompts. I guess they were just having fun with it. And really, that's what this study was all about. Having fun and seeing what we can create with new technologies.

But what's next? Are we going to have AI-generated comedians? Will robots be telling us jokes and making us laugh? I'm not sure if I'm ready for that world. But if this study has taught us anything, it's that the possibilities are endless. So let's embrace the future and see where it takes us. Who knows, maybe one day we'll have a funny robot like Ricky Gervais, Ken Dodd or Adrian Killian. Now that would be hilarious.

AI is on a Search and Destroy Mission for Your Boring Internet Browsing: An Epic Battle Between the Bard and ChatGPT

By Hoopla

Hey, what's up, folks? I’ve been man-handled over here to talk in print to you about the latest advancements in artificial intelligence. I know what you're thinking: "What do you know about AI?" But let me tell you, people, I'm a funny guy. I'm not an AI guy, but I know funny, and there's nothing funnier than a robot telling jokes.

So apparently, Microsoft is incorporating an AI chatbot into its search engine, and the race is on! Google announced that it's adding its latest chatbot, called LaMDA, to its search engine. They're calling it "The Bard," and I don't know about you, but I don't want my search engine talking to me like it's William freaking Shakespeare. If I ask a question about moving companies, I don't want to hear "To move or not to move, that is the question."

But the good news is that the answer will be immediate. No more wading through pages of links; the answer will be right there, thanks to AI. It's like having a virtual assistant at your beck and call. I mean, I love my assistant, but sometimes she's not available when I need her. With AI, you can ask a question at 3 am, and it'll answer you like it's 3 pm. That's the power of technology, people.

But hold up, Microsoft isn't the only one in this AI race. Chinese web giant Baidu is coming out with its chatbot in March, and it's trained on 50% more parameters than Microsoft's. That's a lot of parameters. I don't even know what a parameter is, but I'm impressed.

Now, don't get me wrong, AI technology is great, but it's not perfect. Sometimes, the chatbot just makes stuff up. It's like when my son tells me he didn't eat the last slice of pizza, and I know he's lying because I can see the cheese on his face. The chatbot can be tricked into saying inappropriate things, too. But hey, that's the risk you take when you mess with the unknown.

The bigger question is, what will happen to Google's revenue if people start using AI chatbots instead of Google Search? Google's founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, returned from their outside activities to oversee the response. They're like, "We can't have people finding answers without clicking on our links. We need that advertising revenue." I mean, I get it. We all need money, but you can't stop progress, man.

In conclusion, folks, the AI race is on. It's like a marathon, but instead of humans running, it's robots. I don't know who's going to win, but I hope they give the winner a medal. Maybe a shiny new algorithm or a big old bag of computer chips. Who knows? All I know is that the future is looking bright, people, and I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.

Opera's Latest Act: Bringing AI to Your Browser, But Will It Steal the Show?

By Poison Irene

It looks like we've got some new developments in the world of browsing. Opera's getting in on the generative AI game, and Microsoft's Edge is right behind them. Don't worry, folks, we're not talking about robots taking over the world just yet.

Now, Opera's been making moves in crypto, web 3 and now they're taking on AI too? These guys are ambitious. The new AI features will be integrated into the browser sidebar, which, let's face it, we all use way too much anyway. Opera plans to add a number of AI-generated content services, but they haven't given us any hints yet. Well, don't keep us in suspense, Opera! What have you got up your sleeves?

One of the new features that Opera's testing is a "Shorten" button that generates a bullet-point summary of the article you're reading. They're worried that we're all drowning in content, and let's be real, they're not wrong. With generative AI pumping out more and more articles, we could all use a little help to keep up. And, if you're like me, you need all the help you can get.

Microsoft's Edge is also adding some AI features to its sidebar. You can ask it for a summary of a company report, and it'll spit out the key takeaways. Pretty cool, right? Edge can even help you compose content. I don't know about you, but I'm definitely going to give that a try. I could use a little help with my jokes.

And, of course, Google's getting in on the action too. They're offering up their Generative Language API, which will initially be powered by LaMDA, the large language model that powers Bard. I know what you're thinking, "LaMDA who?" But trust me, it's a big deal.

So, what's the deal with all this generative AI? Well, Opera thinks we need help parsing all the extra content that's flooding the web. And, they're not wrong. I mean, have you seen the internet lately? It's a hot mess. The AI will also help us create written materials faster, so that's a win in my book. Maybe now I'll be able to pump out jokes faster than ever.

At the end of the day, we're on the brink of a new era of creativity on the web, folks. And Opera's right there at the forefront. Who knows what other crazy developments are in store? One thing's for sure, we're in for a wild ride. And if anyone needs me, I'll be over here, figuring out how to make ChatGPT write my jokes for me. Hey, don't judge me, it's 2023, we're in the future now.
